The event “Blue City: Jacaranda Flowering,” held on November 8th at Ibirapuera Park (São Paulo), was full of learning and enchantment. Promoted by the Blue Jacaranda project, organized by Maria Tereza Grombone Guaratini, Leonardo Ganz e Thalita Surian, with support from CBioClima and Urbia Parques, the activity brought together about 50 participants for a day dedicated to observing and learning about the jacaranda species that color Brazilian cities.

During the day, the public had the opportunity to get to know the main species that occur in Brazil up close — Jacaranda mimosifolia, Jacaranda cuspidifolia, and Jacaranda brasiliana — as well as learn to identify their phenophases, such as budding, flowering, and fruiting.

The event also featured playful activities for children, such as word searches and coloring pages, which sparked the little ones' interest in nature and the life cycle of plants. At the end, many visitors showed curiosity in getting to know the observed trees up close, walking through the park to see where the jacaranda trees are located and observe their flowers and leaves.

Among the participants, the feeling was one of discovery and enchantment with the relationship between plants and the climate. Yoga teacher and local resident, Daniele Gomes, highlighted the importance of the initiative: “I thought it was to learn about the tree, but I saw that it is much more complete, because it is a project linked to the climate. It has this perspective that relates the plant to climate knowledge, to make predictions. I found it incredible, lots of new information, very beautiful.”

The event reinforced the connection between science, nature and community participation, showing how observing trees can contribute to understanding climate change and engaging the community in scientific research.
