Panel discussed the strength of Brazilian fauna and science as pillars of sustainable climate solutions
By Michelle Braz
The fundamental role of Brazilian fauna in building sustainable climate and social solutions was the central theme of the panel “The Life That Persists: Fauna and Resilience,” held last Tuesday, November 4th, during the Agenda SP + Verde, at Villa-Lobos Park in São Paulo. The international event, promoted by the government and city of São Paulo in partnership with USP (University of São Paulo), brought together specialists, leaders, and representatives of society to discuss pathways for sustainable development and green economy.
The panel included the participation of Mauro Galetti, Dissemination Coordinator of CBioClima. The scientist addressed how the decrease in animal species and populations affects ecological processes and directly influences the climate, highlighting the urgency of integrated actions to curb biodiversity loss. “The Summit +Green event was a good kick-off for what will be discussed at COP in Belém. Companies, the public sector, scientists, and NGOs are open to exchanging experiences to reduce carbon emissions. Everyone knows that climate change is real,” emphasized Galetti.
The Agenda SP + Verde, a pre-COP event, featured several attractions, promoting integration between society, science, companies, and public authorities. The meeting was organized into four thematic areas: Green Finance, Resilience and the Future of Cities, Climate Justice and Socio-biodiversity, in addition to Energy Transition and Decarbonization. In this way, the event provided debates on circular economy, research, and technology, essential for facing climate challenges on a local and global scale.
